Roots of Gaia was made for the second kind: a spacious, bright and cosy home in an authentic neighbourhood where you live Gaia like a local. The first coffee on the balcony, long dinners around the 6 seat table, film nights in the living room. The Dom Luís I Bridge, the Port wine cellars and Ribeira are just minutes away, but this is where you will want to come back to at the end of the day.

The space

Roots of Gaia offers a spacious, comfortable living room designed for spending time with family or friends. The 6 seat dining table invites group meals, while the small balcony, with a bench for 2, is the perfect spot for a coffee outdoors. In the kitchen, a second table for 4 is ideal for breakfast or quick everyday meals.

The neighbourhood

Roots of Gaia sits in a genuine residential neighbourhood, where daily life follows its own pace. The Dom Luís I Bridge, the Port wine cellars and the Ribeira are a short drive or metro ride away. About 15 minutes by car, towards the coast, you'll find Praia da Madalena, one of Gaia's most iconic beaches, and the Capela do Senhor da Pedra, built on the rocks by the sea. For a taste of authentic Gaia, stroll the streets of Afurada and enjoy some of the area's best fish and seafood.

House rules

- No parties or events
- No smoking inside the apartment
- Quiet hours from 10pm to 8am
- Only guests registered on the reservation may stay overnight

Guest access

You'll have private access to the entire apartment. Check in is fully self service: you'll receive a link with all instructions before arrival and can let yourself into the home with no need to wait for anyone. Free parking available on the street.

Interaction with guests

The Hommelier team is available by message or call throughout your stay for anything you need. We also provide a digital neighbourhood guide with local recommendations in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Welcome kit: shower gel, shampoo, coffee pods, salt, pepper and olive oil offered at the start of your stay, as a courtesy. Towels and linens included.

Smoking policy: Roots of Gaia follows a zero tolerance policy for smoking inside the property. Should our team identify signs that this rule was not respected (smell of tobacco, ashes or cigarette butts), we reserve the right to apply a specialised cleaning fee starting at €200.

Extra services available upon request:
